At a 19 June 2006 seminar in Dublin sponsored by the Royal Irish Academy (“Contested Cultural Property and Museums: The Case of the Hunt Museum,”) the Hunt Museum Evaluation Group presented its Final Report concerning provenance research the Museum has conducted into the history of ownership of objects in its collection. The Academy commissioned the Evaluation Group to oversee the Museum’s study of its collection in response to allegations by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in Paris that the Museum’s founders had assembled its collection with the wartime assistance of art dealers with strong Nazi connections.
